ACF Champion Cadet Competition
for the Claire Shore Trophy

GENERAL
1. The ACF Champion Cadet Competition (for the Claire Shore Trophy) will be held at CTC Frimley Park and on local training areas over the weekend of 7-9 Sep 07. There will be a maximum of 20 places available. Further details on the event are given in Annex A to Reference A above. A summary of previous attendance and winners is given in Annex B.
2. Commandants are asked to note that entry documentation should reach CTC Frimley Park by Fri 8 Jun 07. Blank Data and Testimonial forms are at DOWNLOAD1 above.
3. It is hoped that Master Cadets from across the ACF will be encouraged to apply for this challenging and competitive event which is entirely based on APC Syllabus subjects. Successful participants will be those who are well prepared and motivated. Guidance for preparation was included in the 2006 Report (Reference B) (see DOWNLOAD2 above); potential competitors are advised to read the report.
THE AWARD
4. The award is a framed solid silver engraved medal, complete with the award winner’s details. It will be presented, with the Claire Shore Trophy, to the Winner at the final parade of Master Cadet Course No 46 on 19 Oct 07.
QUALIFICATION
5. All cadets entered for the Champion Cadet Competition must be:
a. Master Cadets, qualified and appointed in accordance with the rules given in Reference A.
b. Serving in the Army Cadet Force at the time of the competition (but not necessarily at the time of the Presentation).
SELECTION
6. The Competition is limited to 20 cadets. Selection will be in 2 stages.
a. Stage 1: Initial Selection.
(1) The County Commandant is to submit the Testimonial for each Master Cadet considered to be a suitable contender for the Award.
(2) The Data Sheet and Testimonial are to be sent to CTC Frimley Park by Fri 8 Jun 07, together with a copy of the cadet’s Master Cadet Course Report. (Download Here - MS Word Format)
(3) The Selection Committee will then study the reports and select the 20 competitors and 3 Reserves for Stage 2. It should be noted that the cadet’s overall performance both as a member of the ACF and in the local community will be considered at this stage. The Committee is seeking to identify the most capable and inspiring Master Cadets.
(4) The Selection Committee will be chaired by Comdt CTC Frimley Park with selected staff.
(5) The names of those selected will be promulgated on Mon 18 Jun 07. Reserves will be called forward, if required, from Mon 20 Aug 07.
b. Stage 2: Competition Weekend.
(1) The selected 20 Master Cadets will participate in the Competition Weekend at CTC Frimley Park from 2000 hours Fri 7 Sep to 1400 hours Sun 9 Sep 07.
(2) Overnight accommodation and an evening meal will be available on Fri 7 Sep; Sat night will be spent in the field.
(3) The Competition Weekend will consist of stands based on the APC Syllabus including:
· Command Tasks
· Weapon Training Tests
· APC Syllabus Written Test
· Night Orienteering Competition
· Logical Problem Solving Exercise
· Patrol Orders
· Marksmanship
· Drill
· First Aid
· Interview by a Panel of Senior DS
c. Selection of Award Winner. The winner will be announced at the end of the Competition Weekend and his/her name will be published on the CTC Website.
PRESENTATION OF THE AWARD
7. The award will be presented on the final parade of Master Cadet Course No. 46, on Fri 19 Oct 07. The winner will be expected to be available on that day, their parents and a limited number of County representatives will be invited as guests.
SUMMARY OF KEY DATES
8. These are:
· Fri 8 Jun 07 - Data Sheet, Commandant’s Testimonial and copy of the cadet’s Master Cadet Course report to be submitted to CTC Frimley Park.
· Mon 18 Jun 07 - Notification promulgated of the 20 Master Cadets selected for the Competition Weekend, plus 3 Reserves.
· Mon 20 Aug 07 onwards - Reserves called forward as required.
· 1800 hrs Fri 7 Sep to 1400 hrs Sun 9 Sep 07 - Competition Weekend at CTC Frimley Park.
· Sun 9 Sep 07 - Award of ACF Champion Cadet 2007.
· 1100hrs Fri 19 Oct 07 - Award Presentation at CTC Frimley Park.
Guidance for Preparation
9. It is hoped that Master Cadets will be encouraged to apply for this physically and mentally demanding challenge. All the events will be based on the APC Syllabus. It will, no doubt, be highly competitive and the successful participants will be those who are prepared and motivated. Guidance for preparation was included in the 2006 Report (for DOWNLOAD see Reference B above).
